If you care to use it. ^-^
It's not, by far, the most inhospitable desert. Most of Akadiya says this as a smug understatement. The West adds, it's just one of them.
Ah, I love the smell of cynicism in the morning.
Each of the three deserts has its own characteristics. Geograpically and culturally distinct, for three factions capable of being rivals they get along fairly well.
The prosperous Eastern Sector, with an oasis every ten miles, is probably the most familiar to foreigners. Life follows the cycle of taking land, claiming mares, and dealing with the next generation. The closest thing to tension is emotional. The national sport is racing- racing, racing, racing across the flat red land in between the oasises which really isn't good for much else. Most of what happens in the rest of Akadiya sounds a little unbelievable here- their world really isn't built for such things. Well, how would you react to hear of demons and spirits and ghosts like perfectly mundane things?
The harsh West is the East's diametric opposite. Clinging to another set of mountains, the years pass in cycles of hazard. Drought, floods, fires. Drought, floods, fires. It gets annoying. And dangerous. Finding water is its inhabitants' main concern, and everything and everyone mingles at the watering hole. We're talking birds, horses, antelope, peccaries, roos, wolves, and didn't we mention something about demons a while back? For such a crowded lunch hour it's kind of amazing how tame things are. There's only about ten (small) things killed daily.
As the mortality rate is what it is, one shouldn't be so surprised about the ghosts dotting the landscape. One should watch out for the malevolent ones, but most are either only bored or lonely. Then again, 'bored' and 'lonely' rank up there in the most dangerous emotions to passerby. Think about it.
Then, there's the South, both something and nothing like either/both East and West. One could say chaos central emanates cheerfully and with an eye to family and tradition from the serene volcano, Siyall. The onsen -hot springs- it causes are said to be good for the health- and there must be something to it, because the Southerners are very long-lived. With so many crabby elders hanging around, the highly traditional, ceremonial mystic culture that pervades the mountain really isn't so surprising. People come from far and wide to learn the occult arts. Those that don't return home (or don't have a home to return to) often end up either as naturalized natives or as wandering magicians, trading up their various skills in exchange for room and board.
Some things are universal, though. Heat, competition for resources, mild predation, food, water, and annoying poisonous things are common to all three deserts. Over the past few generations, national tensions have reached an all-time low- only slightly suspicious of newcomers and open borders. So far, it only seems to be going down. Everyone seems content to mind to their own business, and the weather hasn't been too bad this year.
Life is, it might be ventured to say, good.
XD And now watch it get really bad. But the specifics of that are up to you. Megalomanical empire-builder, a bored fox throwing shape-shifter curses, missionary fanatics coming over the White Mountains from the east, whatever, it's up to you.
Anyway, Fortune and Fate is a brand-new horse roleplay with positions to fill and startup bribes- get your large, free custom terras here! Git yer large, free custom terras here! The rules are essentially 'anything goes if you don't step on toes' and most everything is player-driven. The downside of that is with no players, we're not going anywhere, so stop staring at the wombats and come on. We're unformed and ripe for the corrupting, people! And we have cookies! Darn good cookies, if I may say so. C'mo~o~on, make me happy.
